Our History

In 1946 “The dreams and aspirations of no small number of old scholars were realised when Earnest Massam convened a meeting for any interested in a project to form an Old Boys’ Association”.
A General Meeting was then organised for the 21st January 1947 with the following laudable aim and object: -
“To foster among Old Boys that spirit and comradeship engendered by pride in the history and traditions of the School; to organise meetings, re-unions, social and other activities; and to afford opportunities for discussion on matters relating to there interests.”Earnest Massam was elected president, E Lazenby Chairman and T A Huzzard Secretary. An initial joining fee of 5 shillings and an annual subscription of 10/6d was agreed. Membership from records stood at 234.
The Association flourished for many years and was at some time known as the “Blue Water Club” Mr J M Catchpole being the long time Secretary and Treasurer, eventually however the membership declined and the Association was “Laid Up” on the 1st October 1970.
In November 1981 under the initiative of Robin Booth and with the support of Captain Dennis Thompson the then Headmaster, the Old Boys Association was resurrected with the principal aim of raising funds to enable the Association to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the School in 1987.
After 1987 the Associations focus changed to that of raising funds for the School and various other charities, mainly of a maritime nature and since that time we have raised and donated more than £10,000.
